At her request cremation has taken place. A celebration of Vernice’s life will take place at a future date.

Age 93, passed away at her home in Kalamazoo, MI on February 10, 2017. Vernice was born on July 12, 1923, in Fife Lake, MI, the daughter of Vern Ellis Richardson and Martha Carrie (Strahan) Richardson. She graduated from Fife Lake High School in 1941. Vernice married the love of her life, Ray Moore Hanthorn, on November 8, 1942. She is survived by four children, Sharen Rae of Kalamazoo, Sandra (James) Pulaski, of Mt. Pleasant, Jeff (Susan) Hanthorn, of Carmel, IN, and Martha Hanthorn, of Tampa, FL. She is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, six siblings and her husband Ray. Vernice devoted her life to her family, volunteer work, her church and prayer group. She was an avid bridge player. The family wishes to thank Dr. Thomas Keller for his care while she lived in Kalamazoo. A big “thank you” to Great Lakes Caring Hospice and its staff; particularly Annette, Laura, Sarah, Tesia and Chaplain Nancy, for their comfort and care of Vernice.

Donations in her memory may be made to Great Lakes Caring Hospice or Big Brothers and Big Sisters, c/o the funeral home.

I'm so sad to hear of Grandma Hanthorns passing she was such a wonderful caring lady and I was so blessed to have her as a part of my life. You will be greatly missed and will always have a special place in my heart. Till we see you on the other side I love you❤❤❤❤

We will miss Vernice coming in for her eye examinations. She was always so sweet and her smile was contagious. Thoughts and prayers go out to Sharen and the family in this difficult time. We are honored to have known such a wonderful lady. Dr. Seim and Staff at MFEC
