Service Details

Funeral services will be held on Saturday May 5, 2012 at 11:00 am at Milwood Christian Reformed Church, 3306 Lovers Lane, Kalamazoo, with Rev. Loren Kotman officiating. Visiting hours will be held on Friday May 4, 2012 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home. Private interment will take place at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park.

Obituary Notice

Went to be with his Lord Saturday April 28, 2012 at his home. John was born in Kalamazoo on July 16, 1938 to the late John and Margaret (Meyaard) Meier. John graduated from Kalamazoo Central High school and served his country honorably as a member of the U.S. Army. John worked for Sutherland Paper Company and Shakespeare Company. He was a member of Milwood Christian Reformed Church where he was deeply involved in the Calvinist Cadet Corps for 40 years, also having served as President and Congressman of the Kalamazoo Cadet Council. John especially enjoyed taking the Cadets on canoeing and camping trips. After 28 years, John retired from the Upjohn Company in 1996 and then was a long time employee of Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home. John was also very active in the Kalamazoo Oratorio Society for many years. In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Laurel M. and son, Daniel J. Meier. On April 12, 1966 he was united in marriage to the former Marjorie Schurman who survives. Also surviving are John’s daughter, Lauret K. Meier; grandson, Tyler John Meier; brother and sister, George (Donna) Meier and Katherine Meier; in-laws, Paul (Marilyn) Schurman and three nieces and a nephew. "Only one life will soon be past. Only what's done for Christ will last!" ~TTFN!~

Contributions in memory of John may be made to the Calvinist Cadet Corps.

Marge, Our condolences on the passing of John. I attended Milwood Christian Reformed Church and was an assistant Cadet leader with John and went hunting with John during that time. He very much influenced my plan in life and was always on my mind as Vicki and I moved to Virginia. Best wishes to your famliy during this deep loss.
